Ask The VetAsk The Vet: Peek A Poo Changes |

Q: I have a male Peek A Poo who is 3.5 years old. Up until a few days ago he was full of energy, a very happy playful dog. All of a sudden he does not want to play, and he's having trouble jumping. He'll walk downstairs, but he can't go upstairs and he has been shaking. I took him go the vet yesterday and she bent and pulled on his back legs and checked his spine and nothing seemed to bother him. She also expressed his anal glands. She gave me an antibiotic and pain meds, and he has not improved at all. He has never acted this way before and I have a cat whose fine. What could this be?

Ask The Dog Vet
Dr. Daniel Lauridia, DVMI have a 10 month old male Mini Schnauzer. About 5 weeks ago, I noticed that he would limp after getting up. Exercise seems to make it worse, so I have not been taking him to the park to run. I took him to the vet and she did an x-ray of his leg but not the hip. My vet said it could be hip dysplasia, but she wanted me to wait and see if it goes away before we x-ray his hip. I know hip dysplasia is not common in schnauzers. What do I do? Could it just be a soft tissue injury and, if so, how do I know without a hip x-ray? If it is dysplasia, what would you recommend? He is not on any medication. Thank you!
