Medial Canthal Pocket Syndrome

What is medial canthal pocket syndrome?

Medial canthal pocket syndrome is a condition in which the upper and lower lids in the inside corner of the eye roll outward instead of meeting tightly together. This misalignment creates the formation of a “pocket” in which potentially irritating substances such as dirt and dust can collect. In addition, the improper alignment can interfere with your dog’s ability to drain tears through the eyes’ tear ducts. Medial canthal pocket syndrome most commonly impacts long-nosed dogs such as Doberman Pinchers and Collies.
