Gingivitis literally means inflamed gums.

What will gingivitis look like in my dog?

Your dog will have red and swollen gums. The gums may bleed easily and, in severe cases, tooth loss may result. Also, with severe cases, you may notice that your dog is drooling more than normal.

How does my dog get gingivitis?

Poor oral hygiene causes gingivitis.

How is gingivitis diagnosed?

A visual examination of the gums is all that is required to diagnose gingivitis.

How is gingivitis treated?

Gingivitis can be treated through consistent, proper oral hygiene.

How is gingivitis prevented?

Gingivitis can be prevented with a consistent oral-hygiene practice. Feeding your dog dry food, brushing your dog's teeth with toothpaste specially made for dogs, and using proper chewing toys all help to reduce and prevent gingivitis. There are also homeopathic formulas that may aid in the prevention of gingivitis.

Can I get gingivitis from my dog?

No, you cannot contract gingivitis from your dog.
