Coccidioidomycosis, also known as valley fever, is a potentially deadly disease caused by the cocci fungus. The cocci fungus is found in dry desert soil. If your dog has coccidioidomycosis, it is possible that there will be no symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they may include fever, abdominal pain, weight loss, incessant coughing, and bone or spine pain. How does my dog get coccidioidomycosis?
Most often, the fungus that causes this disease is inhaled into the body. However, it can also enter your dog’s body through wounds or accidental ingestion.
