Caruncular Trichiasis

What is caruncular trichiasis?

Caruncular trichiasis is a disorder in which your dog’s eyelashes grow inward towards the eye. The abnormal eyelid growth will irritate your dog’s cornea, also known as the lens of the eye.

Caruncular trichiasis occurs most commonly in short-nosed breeds such as Boston Terriers and Pugs.

What will caruncular trichiasis look like in my dog?

Caruncular trichiasis can cause a mild eye irritation, resulting in inflammation and a discoloration of the cornea. You may also notice eye discharge that can cause stains on your dog's face. Your dog will also likely blink or squint.
