Standard Poodles were developed in Germany as water retrievers. The name “poodle” is derived from the German word “pudel” which means to splash around. The French, however, were captivated by Poodles and helped to popularize this breed. Standard Poodles must stand greater than 15 inches at the shoulder. As with Miniature Poodles and Toy Poodles, Standard Poodles’ curly and harsh coats come in a variety of solid colors. Poodles are extremely intelligent, playful, and extroverted dogs. Many Poodles also make good watchdogs. To learn how to rescue a Standard Poodle in need of a home
