Shetland Sheepdog

Shetland Sheepdogs were developed in the Shetland Islands from small collie-type dogs on the island. Shetland Sheepdogs, or Shelties, stand 13 to 16 inches at the shoulder. Their coats come in black, blue merle, and sable. All coat colors also have tan, white, or tan and white markings. Shelties are generally spirited, vivacious, and biddable dogs. Shelties can be excessively vocal. In addition, many Shelties are reserved or even shy around strangers. Early socialization is a must.
