Pomerianans were developed from sled dogs in Iceland and Lapland. The Pomeranian’s name comes from the area around the Baltic Sea historically known as Pomerania. It was in this region that the Pomeranian, through selective breeding, was reduced in size to about its current stature. Today’s Pomeranians weigh approximately 3 to 7 pounds. Their coats, which require some grooming, come in the following color combinations: black and tan; brindle; and white with patches of any other color. Poms are alert, inquisitive, spirited dogs. They have a tendency to be excessively vocal. To learn how to rescue a Pomerianan in need of a home or for breeder referrals from the American Pomerianan Club click here. Potential Health Problems*
