Lhasa Apsos originate in Tibet. Lhasas were used in conjunction with giant Mastiffs to guard property. The Mastiff was positioned outside to thwart intruders trying to enter the house, and the Lhasa was stationed inside to sound the alarm and add another layer of protection. Male Lhasa Apsos stand approximately 10 or 11 inches at the shoulder, though their size is somewhat variable. Females stand a bit smaller. Their dense, straight coats, which require a good deal of grooming to keep neat and clean, come in all colors. Lhasas are loyal dogs and quite affectionate with their families. True to their original function, these little dogs are naturally protective watchdogs. To learn about how to rescue a Lhasa Apso in need of a home click here.
