Doberman Pinschers are named after Louis Doberman, a tax collector in the German town of Apolda, who developed this breed to be both a guardian and loyal companion. Males stand 26 to 28 inches at the shoulder, and females stand 24 to 26 inches at the shoulder. Their coats come in black, blue, fawn or red with rust colored markings. Dobermans are intelligent, active dogs, and loyal dogs whose natural protective instincts must be kept firmly in check by an experienced owner.
