Beaucerons were originally developed in France as herding dogs. Males stand 25.5 to 27.5 inches at the shoulder, and females stand 24 to 26.5 inches at the shoulder. Their coats come in black and tan or grey, black, and tan. Beaucerons are strong, well-balanced dogs. They are courageous, highly intelligent, and quite responsive. They bond tightly with their families. Beaucerons are natural guard dogs with a strong sense of territoriality, and they are skilled herders. Both instincts need to be kept under control.
