Alaskan Malamutes are named after the Malamute, an Innuit tribe who used these dogs to help haul sleds. Male Malamutes stand 25 inches at the shoulder. Females stand 23 inches at the shoulder. Their thick coats cause a good amount of shedding, and come in white with shades of black, grey, and sable. All white coats are also possible. Malamutes are good-natured dogs with other people, but can become aggressive around other dogs and animals. Malamutes can also be diggers and chewers, and they have a tendency to wander. As with any other dog, a fenced yard is a must. To learn about how to rescue an Alaskan Malamute in need of a home click here.
