Afghan Hound

These regal sighthounds were developed to hunt game and to guard homes and flocks. Afghan males stand 26 to 28 inches at the shoulder, and they weigh approximately 60 pounds. Females stand 24 to 26 inches at the shoulder, and they weigh approximately 50 pounds. Afghans’ long, silky coats require a fair amount of care, and can come in all colors and combinations of colors. Afghans seem to have a reserved manner, but they can be quite lively and silly when playing. These athletic hounds are both powerful and agile, and they should be given a good amount of exercise each day.
