Ask The Vet: Pig Ears

Q:  We are aware of the potential dangers of rawhide chews. Do the same dangers pertain to pig skin type chews?

A:  Pigs ears are just rawhide chews with flavoring. Thus, the potential dangers are the same as with other rawhide products. In my practice, I have seen a number of GI upsets associated with pig ears.
