Dog parks, especially for urban and suburban dogs, provide a unique outlet for dogs to romp and run. They also provide a great opportunity for your dog to hone his socialization skills with members of his own kind – stimulating your dog both physically and mentally. However, before you and your four-legged friend pay a visit to the local dog park, there are some things you should consider.

Not all dogs are “dog park dogs.” If your dog is aggressive or overly fearful of other dogs or other people, then the dog park is not a place for him. If your dog is in heat, she should obviously not be taken the dog park. Similarly, un-neutered dogs can also be a problem in the dog park. Even if your un-neutered dog is not aggressive, neutered dogs will often try to dominant un-neutered dogs by picking fights with un-neutered dogs.
