Recall Of Pig Ears & Beef Hooves

December 10, 2009

Pet Carousel, manufacturers of pig ears and beef hooves, has begun a recall of these products because the products may be contaminated with the bacteria Salmonella. The affected pig ear products were packaged under the brand names Doggie Delight, Pork Tasteez and Pet Carousel. The beef hooves were packaged under the brand names Choo Hooves, Dentley’s, Doggie Delight, and Pet Carousel. These products were sold in both bulk and retail packaging. The pig ear recall includes those purchased on or after August 16, 2009. The beef hoof recall includes those purchased on or after September 16, 2009.

Symptoms of Salmonella infections in dogs include lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever. If your dog is exhibiting any of these symptoms, immediate veterinary attention is necessary. It should also be noted that dogs may be carriers of Salmonella meaning they can exhibit no symptoms but be able to pass the infection to other dogs.
